Communications Officer
The European Forest Institute (EFI) is an international organisation with 30 member countries and around 130 Associate and Affiliate member organisations. EFI undertakes forest research and policy support at pan-European and global level. Its headquarters are in Joensuu, Finland, and it also has offices in Barcelona, Bonn, Rome, and Brussels. The Institute has approx. 150 staff members and has an annual turnover of approx. 19 million euros. Further information is available at www.efi.int.
We are seeking a Communications Officer to join our Mediterranean and Genetics Resources Facilities to contribute to the strategic development of our communications and network activities as part of a small team.
Key responsibilities will include:
Actively contribute to the development of communications strategies and project proposals for the projects and initiatives of the Facilities.
Plan, carry out and monitor communication and dissemination tasks including developing digital tools, visual communications, postproduction, websites, printed materials, social media and analytics.
Write, edit, and produce compelling content such as articles, press releases, science story-telling, reports, social media posts, and newsletters highlighting forest-related research, policies, and achievements.
Create targeted communication materials for stakeholder groups such as decision-makers, donors, and forest-dependent communities.
Support other networking and capacity building activities as required, including planning, marketing, organisation, administration, implementation, reporting and evaluation.
Support Facility or project-related events, both in-person and online, including live tweeting, interviews, and updates, and coordinating post-event reporting and dissemination of outcomes.
Assist in the preparation of internal and external Facility and project reports.
Maintain contact mailing lists.
Contribute to EFI’s other outreach activities as required.
Duty station
The employee will be based at EFI’s Office in Barcelona, Spain.

Job requirements
At least 3 years’ professional communication experience
A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
Adobe Creative Suite, web CMS; social media tools, excellent MS Office skills; video editing skills an asset.
Previous experience in graphic design and production of visual communication materials (banners and print publications); audiovisual experience an asset (photography, videos, podcasts).
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, ability to multi-task, ability to work under pressure and be flexible as part of a small team.
Experience in organising events, both online and in-person.
Positive, engaging, can-do attitude, with initiative and high motivation.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Spanish and / or other Mediterranean languages are an asset.
Understanding of environmental and forestry-related issues.
Cross-cultural communication skills to work effectively in international settings.
